collodion portrait sessions -

- exceptional experience of sitting for a wet plate collodion portrait, having an insight in the process and watching how the image is created.
I offer portrait sessions in my small, cosy and quiet home - based studio, located in idyllic surrounding of Wicklow mountains, in Glencree.
It is also possible to arrange a session on chosen location.

PROCESS
Wet plate collodion is a 19th century photographic process of taking photographs on glass with use of large format camera. It is a labour intensive, hands on process, giving striking and unique results, not achievable by any other photographic process.

Each portrait is one of a kind, non reproducible image on glass.

Each image is made individually, one by one from start to finish.
At the end of the process images are covered with special resin varnish giving them a lifetime durability.

Exposure times.
Sitting for collodion portrait requires sitting absolutely still for the time of taking the exposure. The time may vary from 10-40 seconds. Please consider this issue especially in case of children.

Available sizes:
4x5inch (approx100x120mm)
5x7inch (approx 127x178mm)
8x10 inch (approx 200x250mm)

Photographs are available framed or unframed.

Unframed, Varnished plates require at least 48 hours for drying, after this time the plate is ready for collection/delivery.
For framing please allow for extra 2 weeks.
